World Scientific editor Professor Jacob Bekenstein has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2012 Wolf Prize in Physics.

The Hebrew University theoretical physics professor was given the award for formulating the thermodynamics of black holes; his conclusions were confirmed by the work of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. Professor Bekenstein said, “It is a great honour for me to be receiving the Wolf Prize.  In the field of gravitation theory, of which black hole physics has long been a crucial part, much mystery remains, and the many gifted researchers active in the field will help to dispel it.”
