Marcelo Alonso was a long time friend of the AAPT Committee on International Education as well as a personal friend. We will all miss his valuable experience and input to the committee. On a personal note, I will miss his warm frienship and support.

A more complete Obituary was published by the Washington Post, Washington DC, on Sunday, November 13, 2005, p. C-8. Dr. Marcelo Alonso, of Cuba, Florida and Maryland, was born in Havana, was a Nuclear Physicist and former Professor of Physics at Georgetown University Graduate School, at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL and back in the 50s at the University of Havana. He was the author and co-author of multiple physics textbooks and publications used worldwide. He came to the US in 1959 and in 1980 retired to Melbourne, FL where he lived at the time of his death. He was 84. He left 4 (married) daughters, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
