Current comments and reminiscences on David P. Olsen:

A good friend, a great teacher, and a terrific human being.
Steve Benka

In the spring of 1969, Mr. Olsen, then a graduate teaching assistant, taught my first course in Electricity & Magnetism, using vol. II of the text by Halliday & Resnick. Through subsequent years, enroute to a physics doctorate, I took several additional courses on this subject, but Olsen's presentation remained by far the clearest. As he said the first week of lecture: "This can be a conceptually difficult topic, especially the first time through." His lucid explanations of difficult concepts provided an excellent foundation for more advanced treatments of this subject.
Douglas Moody, Ph.D.
