Current comments and reminiscences on William S. Rodney:

William S. Rodney (known as 'Bill') died on 9 Aug. 2007 after a long illness and several years of poor health. He worked originally in the field of optics and later in nuclear physics. During his visits at Caltech and Muenster he was involved in experiments related to hydrogen burning in stars. During this time he collaborated with CR on the book 'Cauldrons in the Cosmos' (University of Chicago Press, 1988), which became a standard textbook for many young students and scientists. For many years Bill was involved in the NSF research program for nuclear physics, where he supported many university laboratories. He took particular pleasure in the support of the research of young scientists and great pride in their accomplishments. Aside of his administrative and scientific achievements, Bill was known for his great humour and his warm personality and his enjoyment of social gatherings with friends and family.
