Analysis of musical‐instrument tones

Jean‐Claude Risset and Max V. Mathews
OpenURL
Show Topic
With computers we can not only analyse the sound of a musical instrument but also build up a synthesized copy of the sound. Comparison of real and synthetic tones tells which are the important parameters that lead to recognition of timbre.

Atoms

Vernon W. Hughes
OpenURL
Show Topic
Atomic physics now takes its place in modern fundamental physical theory, principally through the study of electromagnetic interaction of the elementary particles in the atom.

Positron beams

David E. Yount
OpenURL
Show Topic
These particles are now made with an intensity and energy approaching those of primary electron beams; their applications include scattering experiments, colliding‐beam experiments and annihilation photon production.

Space, time and elementary interactions in relativity

Mendel Sachs
OpenURL
Show Topic
To express in a unified formalism all the interactions of matter, ranging from the elementary particles to astronomical bodies, we should begin with a simple study of the concepts of Einstein's space—time.
